Book Review: God Bless The Bottom Feeders: Poems by Melanie Cole
My review of book 2 of this poetry quartet by Melanie Cole!
“Rooster” being the opening of this book made sense. Unlike the loudness of the cawing, this piece was a gentle pleading to keep your faith contained
“Jesus With Conviction” is another one of the scenic poems that I can see playing out in the theater of my mind
In "Hurt", I am curious to know the handful of ways where the hurt comes from. Wounds being mixed with pleasure lf life and ever festering pain was quite relatable.
The titular poem made me hungry😆but also brought to my mind many post church lunches and dinners that often brought greater connection and fellowship than the service that proceeded it. Food for the stomach often times fills you up more spiritually because it's prepared with double love I reckon
"Noodling" reminded me of one of the weirder bits in one of my favorite novels "Summerland" by Michael Chabon which featured noodling in a really unique way. Definitely seems like a brave way to catch a fish!
Enjoyed the gentleness of "Pauline" to close things out! Reminded me of my mama and so many burdens she bore with my own premature birth and caring for my dad after he got sick.
I liked the calm that water invokes displayed in this collection of poetry as well as the reverent fear of the water as well. Highest recommendation!!

This is amazing! Thank you so much for doing this! I never thought I would see something like this, and you reviewing these poems sends me over the moon. I am glad you are enjoying them. <3
