Poverty Notes
“The rent is too damn high!” Memetic phrase of a few years ago Is still true for most from coast-to-coast This is the first ugly scribble of these poverty notes Grocery bill is lengthy too Affording the utitlites is almost an exercise in futility But of course these things are necessary To provide the barest scraps of stability Can’t afford to get sick Can’t afford to die Tax man comes around for their piece of fiscal pie And everyone’s too tired of being sick and tired to question why The notes of the downtrodden poor is as follows: First take a dream deferred, higher hopes promptly dashed and hollowed Next prepare the crumbs and tell them that’s all they have to swallow Poison lies and actual genocide come after that Washed down and washed away in the tides of generational goodbyes Damn these hopes and damn these notes

Loved this one. Loved the Langston reference, it was perfectly timed.
One of the best man! This is rad and reminds me of a couple of Gil Scott Heron poems, including Whities on the Moon which is a favourite poem off mine.
